What carmakers really thought about the ZEV mandate

Very interesting to see what the brands think, and what may be motivating them.

What occurs to me though is that the engine is only one aspect of the car market that needs to be ‘revolutionised’ (and incentivised).

We can’t afford to simply motivate manufacturers to sell more vehicles (that happen to be EVs), but at the same time we also need to be selling fewer cars, particularly fewer MASSIVE, unsafe cars. They’re simply switching to creating ever more SUV models, even if they happen to be powered by electricity.

It would also be good to see this run in parallel with a taxation regime that not only favours cleaner engines, but also cars that fit better in our cities, and are safer for pedestrians and cyclists to share the road with.

I do wonder whether the government could get a more coordinated policy together?
